I was born in a village known as Mangalapur (Mohnapur) of current Mahrajganj district situated at the north-east end of Uttar Pradesh, India, in a middle-class brahmin family. My birthplace is situated between Kushinagar, (about 46 km east), the place of Mahaaparinirvaana and Lumbini ( 22 km west), place of birth of Siddhartha the Gautam Buddha, Yogi GorakshNath Peeth and Magahar, place of Saint Kabir,(about 82 km south). The history of Mahrajganj can be traced back as and as 490 BC when Ajaatshatru, the King of Magadha, wanted to shift his capital to the hilly Rajagirha to a more strategically located place to combat the Licchavis of Vaishali. He chose the site on the bank of Ganga and fortified the area.
According to Vedic writings, the earliest known monarch ruling over this region with his capital at Ayodhya was Iksvaku, founder of the solar dynasty. The solar dynasty produced a number of kings; Rama of the Ramayana is most well-known. The entire region was an important center of Vedic culture and civilization, a part of the famous kingdom of Koshala, one of the sixteen Maha-Jana padas (states) in the 6th century BCE India.
